Geek Media decided to put together a mini series of short articles to give you some of the highlights of the awesome features that Google Adwords has to offer.
We decided to start with custom ad scheduling because it’s very effective and a money saver for clients with a smaller budget. Google Adwords automatically sets your ads to run 24/7 and will spend your budget until it runs out. With ad scheduling you can specify that certain ads only run certain days of the week or certain times of the day or only your during business hours. Letting your ads run 24/7 is okay for businesses who have giant ad budgets but scheduling ads can be a great tool for many reasons:
Susan runs a beauty salon in Sacramento, California that is open 7 days a week from 11am – 5pm. She finds her busiest days of the week are Monday and Friday with steady traffic on the weekend. Susan’s ad runs on Tuesday through Thursday from 11am – 4pm in order to attract new clients on her “slow” days without being overwhelmed with phone calls while actively attending to clients in her salon.
Bea is organizing a 10k / 5k walk / run in her hometown of Yarmouth, Massachusetts in order to raise money for Type 1 Diabetes Research, a disease that her 7 year old granddaughter was recently diagnosed with. The event is being held on October 4th with online registration ending at 11:59pm on October 2nd. Bea’s ad is scheduled to run until 10am on October 4th, even though online registration ends on the 2nd. Extending the ad through the start of the walk / run encourages folks to show up and register last minute on race day.
How do you schedule your ads?
1. Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.
2. Click the Campaigns tab at the top.
3. Under All campaigns, click the name of the campaign to be scheduled.
4. Click the Settings tab, then click the Ad schedule subtab. (Remember, ad scheduling is available only for campaigns with “All features” enabled.)
5. If this is your first time creating an ad schedule on this campaign, click + Create custom schedule. If you’ve created an ad schedule before, click the + Ad schedule button.
6. Make your selections for specific days and times.
7. Click Save. You’ll see your changes reflected in the Ad schedule statistics table.
